We were apprehensive but excited for our "Return to the Magic" trip to Walt Disney World. I had packed items we don't normally bring on our Disney trips: face masks, large bottles of hand sanitizer, and anti-bacterial wipes. Now that our trip has come and gone, I can say that we felt safe with all the new safety procedures and social distancing guides Disney has put in place, we felt very comfortable being at the resort and in the theme parks. The transportation to the theme parks were socially distanced; we were the only ones on our bus to the Magic Kingdom. Buses now have physical dividers to separate parties and not all seats are available for guests to use. The Skyliner is now only one family per gondola - so no more sharing with people outside of your party. The gondolas are being sanitized after guests exit so they are clean for your family! We also saw lots of hand sanitizer stations throughout the parks and resorts that are for guests to use. Arriving at the park is where we went through the temperature screening - a requirement for all to enter the parks. The no-touch temperature screening done by a Cast Member was a quick process. I was nervous we weren't going to pass from it being outside but we all passed without any issues. Security check-point is a smoother process now, we didn't have to take things out of all of our bags and then do the metal detector. Instead, we carried our bags with us through the metal detectors. Only if we set it off did the officers search the bags. This happened to us and it was a fast find for the culprit that made us beep, a back-up battery charging pack. After security we scanned our Magic Bands, finger scans are no longer required, and we were in the parks! Luck was on our side and we were promptly greeted with our first character cavalcade, which my girls loved. The streets were empty, pathways to attractions were clear and easy to manage. w The queues throughout the parks (not just at attractions) now have social distance markers on the ground that everyone was respectfully following. My girls quickly made it a cute game up about standing on the markers while we waited. Some queues even had physical barriers to keep guests separated - for example when it came to boarding the attraction, tall plastic dividers were up separating parties. Attractions had had physical barriers to keep guests separated; distancing between parties; or both physical barriers and distancing. We also saw Cast Members constantly cleaning high touch areas; tables; and the attractions themselves. For our Quick Service dining we utilized Mobile Ordering. Walt Disney World is encouraging guests to use this feature on the My Disney Experience app. Mobile ordering was very easy and it allowed us to order in advance when we were on our way to the restaurant. Once our order was ready to be picked up, we were seated by a Cast Member who sprayed our table down before we sat.
The biggest concern of mine going into this trip was having to wear masks. In the end, wearing masks wasn't that bad. Was it hot? Yes, but everything was hot - we were in Florida in August. But it wasn't as though my face was hotter than any other part of my body. We had personal neck fans that helped keep us cool and when my girls needed a break, we headed to the Relaxation Station. These are areas where you can sit without a mask which allowed us to have mask-free drink and snack break. The benefit of being able to walk-on to most attractions and the extremely short lines for head liner attractions offset having to wear masks. The Taste of Epcot International Food and Wine Festival and the pop up character sightings made for unexpected fun and I honestly can't wait to go back.
