Simply Perfect Vacations is back from a Disney Cruise Line aboard the Disney Magic. We visited Disney Cruise Line’s new island destination - Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
For our visit, we booked a Grand Family Cabana to relax the day at and enjoy the new island destination. Here is a video tour of inside the Grand Family Cabana #2 at Disney's Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point!
Each Grand Family cabana is furnished with a large table that seats 8 comfortably inside. Also inside guests will have a sitting area with a couch, two chairs and a coffee table. Our sitting area also happened to have a pack'n'play provided to us as we had a toddler with us.
In addition to the comfortable seating, a small refrigerator was stocked full of beverages (water and sodas) and cooling towels - great for the hot day. In addition to the included drinks, snack - chips, granola bars and fruit - were also provided for snacking. There is also lots of counter space and storage cabinet where you'll find a safe. The ceiling fan kept the inside of the cabana delightfully breezy. Towels and sunscreen were provided so we did not need to bring any from the ship. In additon, there was an indoor sink - perfect for washing up before eating. Outside on the patio, we had three luxurious chaise lounge chairs plus a second seating area - this one had two love seats and a cushioned footstool - that was covered. The highlight of our cabana was the personal freshwater shower right on the beach. Best of all were the spectacular views of the Disney Magic! If you've been debating on when to book for later this year - DON'T WAIT! It's only $200 to book your package and rooms are selling out through the end of the year. You will experience the not-so-spooky fun of Halloween from August to end of October; the EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival running August 29 - November 23rd; and the magic of the holiday season from mid-November until the end of December. This year we took our first long flight with our kiddo. We flew from Cincinnati to Maui, Hawaii and while it wasn't his first time flying, it was the longest travel day he's ever experienced. Here is what I did to survive our 8+ hour flight to Hawaii with a 20 month old (cause they do not listen to reason on why they have to sit for so long) and yes - I would fly to Hawaii again in a heartbeat.
Snacks. Allllllll the snacks. I found new-to-him snacks and brought some of his favorite snacks because I know a hungry kiddo is an angry kiddo (this is a rule with my kid and may not reflect yours). During the flight and layover he was allowed to have the snacks whenever he wanted them. I found a cute $1 snack box from Target and loaded it up allowing him to make the choice of what he wanted which he also thought was great. Layover play time. There are no direct flights to Maui from CVG so we booked an option that had a longer layover between flights. This allowed us to break up the long travel day with a period that he didn't have to sit in a seat and was able run around and play. We found an empty area in the airport and let him play, explore, be loud, and count planes taking off. Many airports now have playground areas for kids to be kids at so research your connecting airport to see if they have one and where it is located; that way you can ask an airport employee how to get there from your arrival gate. New to him toys. I went to the dollar store and got a bunch of new, cheap toys to play with. Everything from sticker books to "color with water" books to puzzles and cars. I loaded up to keep him entertained and it didn't cost much if we happened to loose a piece or a toy on the flights. I also brought some of his favorite that I knew if he needed to be calmed down quickly, they would do the trick. We quickly became tablet parents. I got him a cheap kids tablet and downloaded a lot of kid friendly apps (he LOVES anything that does the ABC's and counting so I found a bunch of those) and we also downloaded episodes of his current favorite shows and let him watch those. I let him play with it when he wanted. I also got headphones so I wouldn't have to worry about sound levels bothering our neighbors. I, however, forgot the cord to connect said headphones to tablet so don't forget to pack that so you aren't constantly turning down the volume like I was! Let him sit where he wanted. In his own chair or on my lap or my husband's lap. I quickly discovered into our long flight that our kiddo was not going to nap in his own seat. He is used to laying down and stretching out - something he couldn't do in his own seat. However if I held him or let him lay over us, he was comfy enough to take a nap. This meant on the way home from Hawaii, I held him the entire time so little man could sleep peacefully. Traveling to your destination is just one element of a trip. There’s so much more to consider and plan out! If you’re ever curious about how I can help, don’t hesitate to reach out.
